PowerPoint Vulnerability

Apparently PowerPoint has some issues according to Arbor Networks, an internet threat monitoring company. What really caught my attention was what I’ve highlighted in red and underlined below…. that these issues with PowerPoint have been used in the WILD in targeted attacks. So, under the summary of the threat, I’ve included a graphic of what one of these disturbing targeted attacks might look like, in the wild. I warn you now, you may never go on a safari again…

Multiple issues have been found and fixed in Microsoft PowerPoint. These issues could allow a malicious attacker to send the victim a malicious PowerPoint file that can be used to execute arbitrary code on the victim’s PC. Some of these issues have been used in the wild in targeted attacks. All users are encouraged to update as soon as possible.

Example #3: Draft of Catering Menu

This is a mock up draft of a catering menu I presented to a friend of mine with a restaurant. The prices are incorrect and only ‘placeholders’. The photographs were taken by myself, edited in Adobe Photoshop. The texture was created by me. I replicated a pattern from the stenciled trim on the walls inside the restaurant. The colors were chosen from the interior walls.

I can do something similar for you:

Photography, editing and menu design: You would own the images and the final product. It would be easily editable for future changes. The cost would include a short lesson on how to make changes. This service is primarily available in the Eugene, Oregon general area. Menus would be completely customized to your restaurant and tastes. Photos would be taken at your place of business.

You have the photos, but just need menu layout and design: The same applies from above. You would own the final product and it would be easily editable for future changes. However, if all you need is menu design and layout, you can be anywhere in the world if you can get the pictures to me.

Example #2: Wedding Invitations,

The image below is a mock up of a wedding invitation. The daughter of a co-worker of mine asked if I could do her wedding invitations. I did the following mock-up before I had any of the specific information (both their names, where the church was or the date…) so its filled in with ‘placeholder’ information. The photos are not mine, they are stock photography. I could easily create an invite or thank you card that included photographs I’ve taken. A thank you card that included poignant images from your own wedding would make such a nice personal touch.

I could do something similar for you:

Wedding invites: I could use stock photography, images you already have, or (if you are in Eugene, Oregon area) take some photographs myself. Talk to me about a theme, or a pattern that you especially like, or a concept you already have and I can create several mock ups for you to choose from. Depending on your desired look, they can be printed on photo paper, card stock, linen paper…

Thank You cards: Everything above is relevant. However, if you purchase the rights to the images your wedding photographer takes, I could create personalized Thank You cards that would show each guest at your wedding.

I’ve been called the “Computer Whisperer” by my colleagues. I have a natural talent for making computers obey. That is after all, according to Issac Asimov, what computers should do. My primary talents lie in Microsoft Office (Publisher, Word, PowerPoint, Excel… and to a lesser degree, Access) and Adobe Photoshop.

I can create elegant spreadsheets in excel designed to track information, extract information, or push information around. I can create flyers, brochures, business cards, posters, advertisements, invitations to weddings, birthday parties, events, or showers. I can touch up and edit photographs or images in Photoshop. I can edit communications, memos, letters, presentations and emails for spelling, grammar or awkward sentence structure. I am a skilled internet researcher with the determination to sift through the irrelevent and bizarre to find what is needed. My PowerPoint presentations are professional, clean, and graphically appealing without being cluttered by distracting animation or jumpy text.

I have the computer skills and patience to get the job done well. I have the skills and you need them. Let me know what I can do to make you look good at your job.
